The Enchanted Isle
The MV Enchanted Isle is an Interceptor 42, built by Safehaven Marine in Ireland and launched in January 2005. Interceptors are built to Lloyds Special Service Craft rules and regulations, the highest standard in the industry. She is 42 feet long and has a beam of nearly 14 feet, making her incredibly stable and seaworthy.
She was built specifically for transporting up to 12 passengers from the Isle of Harris out to St Kilda, this is a voyage of 45 nautical miles out into the Atlantic from Harris and when undertaking a voyage of this kind, the vessels sea keeping at speed whilst still retaining passenger comfort is paramount and is one of the reasons an Interceptor 42 was chosen. Her general arrangement has been designed to allow for the maximum seating in the main cabin, with passenger seating arranged in 4 person seating modules with a table between, maximising available space and ensuring that your excursion is as comfortable as possible.
She has full galley and toilet facilities with hot & cold running water and a large flush aft deck allowing plenty vantage points for all the passengers. A wide access door on the port side of the aft deck allows for easy embarking and disembarking.
Power is supplied by a single 700hp Caterpillar engine, giving her a top speed of 26 knots and a cruising speed of 18 knots.
At the helm position there is a full array of electronic equipment to maximise safety whilst at sea, comprising of Radar, Sounder, Autopilot, 2 GPS, 2 Electronic Chart Plotters and 2 VHF Radios. The vessel is coded to MCA category 2 and as such, carries a full compliment of safety equipment and life saving appliances.
